Lahaina Friday Town Party

“Front Street – Great Street” is the theme for January’s Second Friday in Lahaina, which celebrates the selection of Front Street as one of the 10 Great Streets in America for 2011 by the American Planning Association.

The streets of Lahaina will be adorned with fresh flowers to celebrate this first-time honor for Hawaii.

CULTURE

• Lahaina Restoration Foundation will feature its free monthly series Haʻina Hou! (Let the Story be Told!) at the Wo Hing Museum and Baldwin Home Museum from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Baldwin Home Museum
    • Presentation: “Healing Practices of the 1800s”, 6:30 p.m.
    • Dr. Baldwin, in addition to being a missionary, was a practicing physician on Maui in the mid 1800s. His medical tools and their uses will be discussed. A traditional Hawaiian healer will also demonstrate ancient Hawaiian healing techniques still being used today.
    • The popular, weekly Candlelit Tour of the Baldwin Home will be held from 6 – 8:30 p.m. There is a $8 charge per person for the tour which includes a tour of the Wo Hing Museum. Children, accompanied by a paying adult, are free.
  • The Wo Hing Museum
    • Presentation on Chinese New Year and Lion Dance, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
    • Keiki crafts such as include paper lantern making, puppets and fans, and “Year of the Dragon” items and fresh produce for sale.

Napili Point Resort should be an incredible place to view the eclipse.  There’s no better seat in the house than on the grass, by the bay, to watch this event!

Humpback whale season in Hawaii generally runs from November through May. As many as 12,000 of the whales winter each year in the waters off Hawaii, where endangered humpback whales are protected.Hall said.
