Festivals of Aloha

The theme for the 2011 Festivals of Aloha is “E Hi’ipoi i Ka Lei Aloha, Cherished is the beloved child.” The Festivals of Aloha events will be held in September and October, with the kick off on September 2nd.

The schedule of events include:

September 2nd – Maui is honored to open the celebrations with a special First Friday street festival in Wailuku, to include the amazing music of the Makaha Sons who will kick off the event.  The evening will continue with Louis “Moon” Kauakahi on six-string guitar, John Koko on upright acoustic bass, and Jerome Koko on 12-string guitar at 7:30 pm, and then Hawaiian falsetto singer Ikaika Blackburn, Joel Katz on Hawaii steel guitar, and jazz pianist Gene Argel and his ‘Ohana, High Rise and Dejavu.  The streets will be lined with live entertainment – hula, food, artisans, crafters, and shopping in historic Wailuku town.   The best part of all is that the ADMISSION is FREE!

Mark your calenders and come to Market Street in Wailuku, 6 pm – 8:30 pm.

Sept 9: Home grown activities feature keiki (children) entertainment, cultural projects, educational demonstrations. will be happening at the Maui Mall in Kahului from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

Sept 10: 10th Annual Richard Hoopii Falsetto Contest, cultural demonstrations, craft booths and kids’ activities. Festivals of Aloha ribbon for entry. The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Salon Ballroom, 6 pm – 10 pm. (Note: A Festivals of Aloha Ribbon is needed for admission to this event.)

Sept 11: Festivals of Aloha Ho‘olaulea, Lahaina Banyan Tree Park Entertainment, 2011 Richard Hoopii Falsetto Contest winners; crafters and artisans. Historic Lahaina Banyan Tree Park, 9 am – 5 pm.
